Welcome to Year 1, where the children are continuing their exciting learning journey and building on the foundations secured in Reception. The Year 1 staff work very hard to make the transition from Foundation to Year 1 as smooth as possible for the children.
Year 1 is the first year in Key Stage 1, but has very strong links with Foundation Stage (Reception). During the Autumn Term, children learn in a similar style to that experienced in Reception. Year 1 children still have access to learning through Role Play, Puppets, computers and much more. We work hard throughout the year to encourage the pupils to work more independently and equip them with the skills necessary for them to access the curriculum in Year 2.
In Year 1 the focus is targeted towards providing the children with a more structured routine. There are more formal elements of learning such as a Literacy Hour and a Numeracy Hour, where the children take part in whole-class lessons and then complete differentiated group tasks, sometimes working independently, with the teacher or with a teaching assistant.
Your child will be supported during this important year by Miss Parfitt (Class Teacher) and Mrs Cooper (Teaching Assistant) and Mrs Barton (Teaching Assistant).
